Coffee Substitutes

Need your daily coffee fix? If you are looking for flavour (and not the caffeine) some ideas have been suggested.

We made some coffee from roasted dandelion roots last fall and found the 'coffee' very enjoyable. We simply washed the roots, cut them up finely - about 1/2 cm square - and roasted them in a pan over a fire for 1/2 hour or a bit more and then ground them up and boiled the rough powder.

Roasted faba beans (roasted and ground) are a tasty hot drink substitute for coffee.
